Welcome
to the official website of
The Woodford Singers UK.
Since its formation in 2011, this friendly ladies choir has gained an excellent reputation and a keen following, with performances of a unique and varied repertoire. The choir’s intention is to promote quality music-making in the local community and further afield, while creating a sense of belonging for the members themselves.
Further down this page are details about events that The Woodford Singers have initiated or have been engaged for. Do contact us if you would like to book our services - you can read some of our testimonials here.
If you would like us to keep you informed of forthcoming concerts and news, please subscribe to our mailing list, or please contact us for more information should you be interested in joining this choir.
Donations are vital for the regular running of The Woodford Singers: for purchasing sheet music and for venue hire, and towards engaging special guest artistes. Easyfundraising has been a great help in building funds; even small online shopping purchases make a big difference.
Concerts
The Woodford Singers hold sell-out concerts throughout the year across East London and West Essex and recently completed their first successful tour in Cornwall.
Favourite choral composers include Eric Whitacre, Bob Chilcott and Sarah Quartel, and arrangers Michael Neaum and Kirby Shaw feature strongly in their concerts.
Working with orchestras and quartets has given the choir the opportunity to perform full scale works such as Vivaldi’s Gloria with the Heron String Quartet and Vaughan Williams’ Folk Songs of the Four Seasons with The Woodford Symphony Orchestra... see the Repertoire section for the full list.
Concert themes are sometimes determined by the concert organisers - see our Facebook page - and the choir is very happy to liaise in order to create the right programme for every occasion.
Whether you’re celebrating or commemorating, The Woodford Singers can help you make it an occasion to remember...
Weddings &
Civil Partnerships
You may have set pieces you want included in the ceremony or you may simply love music and don’t know where to start. Kathleen Savage, Musical Director of The Woodford Singers, will be happy to discuss your requirements to make your special day even more special.
Repertoire is wide ranging, from classical and jazz to musical theatre and folk songs, and if your preferred piece is not in the current repertoire the choir will, given sufficient rehearsal time, perform most requests.
Please contact us if you're interested.
"What better way to honour the union of two people, the coming together of two lives, two families, than beautiful singing…
I’m not the kind of girl who thought much about what her wedding would look like before Rashid and I started planning. But the one thing we did know - and agree on - from the outset was that music had to be a key part of the ceremony.
The Woodford Singers were the perfect accompaniment to a perfect day, performing a varied repertoire as well as helping the congregation with the hymns.
They sounded wonderful, adding that extra touch of sparkle to our special occasion.
Thank you so much for helping us create memories we won’t forget.”

Join Us
From time to time vacancies arise in the choir, which meets regularly on Wednesday evenings in South Woodford, 7.30 to 9.30.
These weekly rehearsals are fun but nevertheless well planned and exacting.
Members share a commitment to creating beautiful music through focused rehearsal and individual practice, demonstrated by the love of quality music-making in performance.
There is no formal audition. Prospective members are invited to join us in rehearsals for a couple of weeks after which our Musical Director, Kathleen Savage, holds an informal voice test to assess vocal range and discuss whether The Woodford Singers is the choir for you.
